711 A.D. (April 30) Tariq, general of Musa, the Moslem ruler of Morroco lands several thousand troops at Algerciras.
711 (July) The Battle of Guadalete. After about a week of fighting Tariq's troops defeats those of the Visigothic king and the king is killed.
712 Musa lands in Spain to complete the conquest of the country.
713 A Visigoth Theodomir concludes a treaty with Musa that allows him to establish a kingdom in Murcia under Moorish overlordship.
718 Pelayo (Pelagius) rallies Christians in the kingdom of Asturias in northern Spain.
720(?) The Moors are defeated by the Asturians under the command of Pelayo in the Battle of Covadonga.
